CV Personal Statement Examples for UK Jobs (2026)
Your personal statement — sometimes called a professional profile — is the first thing a UK recruiter reads after your name. In 3–4 lines, it must answer: who you are, what you offer, and what role you want.
What Is a Personal Statement on a UK CV?
A personal statement sits at the top of your CV, below contact details. Unlike a US resume objective, UK profiles focus on value to the employer, not what you want from the job.
Keep it to 50–80 words. Recruiters spend seconds on first pass — make every word count.
Personal Statement Example: Retail Assistant
"Friendly retail assistant with 3+ years on busy UK high-street floors. Skilled in customer service, till operation, and hitting daily sales KPIs. Reliable team player seeking weekend and peak-trading roles in Leeds and West Yorkshire."

Personal Statement Example: Graduate / No Experience
"Motivated Business Management graduate with society leadership experience and strong communication skills. Seeking entry-level admin or customer service roles while completing my degree. Available for part-time work up to 20 hours per week."

How to Write Your Own Personal Statement
- Open with your role or status — job title, student, career changer
- Add 2–3 proof points — years of experience, key skills, certifications
- Close with target role and location — tailor per application
Avoid clichés like "hard-working team player" without evidence. Replace with specifics: "Led team of 8" or "Maintained 92% CSAT across 60+ daily calls."
Common Personal Statement Mistakes
- Writing in first person ("I am…") — UK convention uses third person or implied first
- Making it too long — over 100 words gets skipped
- Using the same statement for every job — tailor keywords from each posting
- Listing skills without context — "Microsoft Office" alone says little
Tailor Your Statement for ATS
Mirror keywords from the job description. If the posting mentions "stakeholder management" or "GDPR," weave those terms naturally into your profile.
